NEBULA ENSEMBLE is an award-winning experimental music group pushing genre boundaries, advocating for living creators, and connecting with our community through immersive, multidisciplinary concert experiences.
Described as “weird, fresh, and novel” and “an immersive experience unlike anything the crowd had ever experienced before”, Nebula Ensemble performs the newest of contemporary classical music in visually striking shows that emphasize cross-disciplinary collaboration and audience participation.
“Weird, fresh, and novel”
Since the group’s founding in 2014, Nebula Ensemble has presented programs at Colorado venues including the Newman Center, the Denver Art Museum, Regis University, and the Ent Center for the Arts.
“An immersive experience unlike anything the crowd had ever experienced before”
To date, the group has received three awards for outstanding performance including Westword’s Best of Denver 2019, and has commissioned new works by up-and-coming composers residing in the US, Europe, Asia, and South America.
Nebula Ensemble is dedicated to providing a platform for living music creators and making new music accessible to a wider audience. We demonstrate our commitment to amplifying historically marginalized voices through inclusive programming and mindful collaboration. We focus on uplifting creatives who live and work in our community, while also partnering with creatives around the world. We value intimate concert settings and work to build strong relationships with a supportive audience, performing an average of three programs per year at multiple venues on the Front Range, and giving back to our community through educational programming.
Since our 2014 founding, Nebula Ensemble has premiered approximately 104 new works composed specifically for us, with approximately 33% of all premiered works composed by female and nonbinary composers, 50% of paid commissions going to female composers, and over 40% of our total repertoire representing female, nonbinary, and non-white composers. While proud that our composer demographics are significantly more diverse than most major orchestras in the US today, we recognize that we can still do better, and we strive to continue improving representation in our concert programming.
